Location: Bournemouth/Christchurch/Poole
Rate: £25–£30 per hour
Contract: Flexible, self-employed, term-time work
About the Role
We’re looking for passionate and experienced SEN professionals to support children and young people across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) area who are currently out of mainstream education or require additional support with their learning.
We have opportunities available across the area, supporting learners with a range of special educational needs (SEN), additional learning needs and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in SEN education, support work or mentoring who wants to make a real difference to young people’s lives.
You don't need previous 1:1 tutoring experience to be considered. However, you must have experience supporting children or young people with SEN on a 1:1 basis in another setting, such as a school, specialist provision, residential setting or through support work.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored 1:1 educational support to children and young people with SEN.
- Support learners with their engagement, confidence, emotional regulation and personal development.
- Adapt learning activities to suit individual needs and abilities, including working towards Functional Skills where appropriate.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with learners who may have struggled to engage with education.
- Support learners with additional needs, which may include autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, anxiety and challenging behaviour.
- Provide a safe, supportive and encouraging learning environment.
- Work flexibly across home, school and community settings, depending on the placement.
Requirements
- Essential: Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN.
- Experience providing 1:1 support in an educational, care, mentoring or similar setting.
- A patient, understanding and adaptable approach.
- Confidence supporting learners with additional needs and varying levels of engagement.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
QTS/QTLS are not essential for this opportunity, provided you have the relevant SEN and 1:1 support experience.
Working Hours and Pay
- £25–£30 per hour, depending on the placement.
- Flexible, term-time opportunities, within the days of Monday to Friday during school hours.
- Sessions may take place in the learner’s home, school or a suitable community setting.
- Opportunities across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
- Self-employed/freelance work, ideal for professionals looking for flexible opportunities.
Who Would Suit This Role?
This opportunity would suit SEN Teachers, SEN Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Behaviour Mentors, SEN Support Workers, Youth Workers and other professionals with relevant experience supporting children and young people with additional needs.
If you have experience supporting young people with SEN on a 1:1 basis and are looking for a flexible opportunity to make a meaningful difference, we’d love to hear from you!
