Senior Building Surveyor required for a specialist property investment and development company.
Our client is a dynamic specialist property investment and development company focusing on the acquisition, development and management of high-quality, affordable residential properties across London and the surrounding areas. With a commitment to creating exceptional living spaces, particularly in HMOs (Houses in Multiple Occupation), our client aims to lead with integrity, attention to detail and compliance in all construction and renovation projects.
We are therefore seeking an experienced Senior Building Surveyor/ Project Manager to join their team and oversee the construction and refurbishment of affordable housing properties by third party developers and, once bought, the continued compliance of such properties.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the regulatory landscape governing residential properties and HMOs, seeking to ensure that all developments meet Home Standards, Local Authority guidance and all relevant building regulations.
You will be responsible for supervising construction progress by third parties, ensuring adherence to project specifications and safeguarding quality and compliance throughout each project phase. In essence, you will be the point person for all of our client’s property requirements as it continues to grow its portfolio.
This role requires a proactive, personable professional with excellent knowledge of building regulations, strong organisational skills and an eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Supervision : Oversee and monitor construction and refurbishment works on residential and HMO properties, ensuring that each project meets company standards for quality, safety and compliance.
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure all projects comply with current UK building regulations, particularly those related to residential properties and HMOs. Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting HMO standards and Local Authority guidance.
- Quality Control : Conduct regular site visits to assess and verify the quality of construction work, identifying and addressing any issues or non-compliance promptly.
- Stakeholder Liaison : Act as the main point of contact between developers, contractors, architects and other stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project goals and standards.
- Health & Safety : Promote and enforce a culture of safety on-site.
Requirements
- Qualifications : A degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field; RICS or CIOB accreditation is preferred.
- Experience : Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a building surveyor or similar role, with a focus on residential properties and HMOs.
- Technical Knowledge : Strong understanding of UK building regulations, particularly regarding HMOs. Experience working with Local Authorities and Home Standards requirements is preferred.
- Project Management Skills : Proven track record in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Communication Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports where required and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail : Keen eye for detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in construction and renovation.
