Main Responsibilities:
1) Engineering/Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance of site assets (capsuling, tabletting, blistering, sachet, syringe filling/labelling and boxing machines)/utilities (compressed air, purified water, gas and electric) across the different buildings/locations and the 24/5 (sometimes 24/6 and 24/7) working patterns.
- Ensure we have enough cover to support the various working patterns including managing ‘out of hours’ call outs to site for critical equipment alarms or breakdowns.
- Drive the maintenance/engineering strategy for the site transitioning from reactive "break-fix" repairs to a proactive model.
- Coordinate/supervise contractor management on site i.e. site alignment of works to be done, RAMs, permit to work completion for each activity.
- Help build the yearly CAPEX investment plan (and support the implementation) with the other site stakeholders.
2) To design and implement a maintenance and asset management:
- Organize Our Assets: Build a clear digital map of all our equipment and components so we can easily track their history and costs.
- Plan Maintenance: Set up the system to handle everything from emergency fixes to scheduled check-ups and smart alerts that predict when a machine might fail.
- Streamline Workflows: Create a smooth process for the team—from the moment a fault is reported until the job is finished and signed off.
- Smart Scheduling: Use the IFS scheduling tools to get the right technician to the right job at the right time based on their skills.
- Connect Parts & Inventory: Make sure the right spare parts are available when needed by linking our warehouse to our work orders.
- Keep Finances Accurate: Work with the finance team to make sure all maintenance spending and service revenue are tracked correctly in our main accounts.
- Analyze Problems: Set up simple ways to track why equipment fails so we can fix the root cause and improve our maintenance templates.
- Connect with Partners: Set up easy-to-use portals so our customers and subcontractors can see status updates and share information with us.
3) People/Safety/Quality/Delivery/Cost:
- People: Manage, motivate, and develop the team to ensure high performance and professional growth. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Look at all areas from reward & recognition, mentoring, training, development and talent management. Make sure we have the right manpower to maintain the site assets across the required shifts. Along with the other managers help build the site master plan and participate fully in the management of the site, including all actions within and outside of the individual’s basic remit which impact on the reputation, integrity, performance and profitability of the Somerset site.
- Safety (Health & Environment): Ensure the areas/machines operate in compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and look to keep improving safety culture and employee participation.
- Quality: Ensure all maintenance activities are complaint to the required quality standards i.e. cGMP/BSI/FSSC/FEMAS/UFAS/NOPS guidelines, work on improving quality/food safety culture. Make sure the team are owning and driving the quality activities i.e. RCA, deviation management, MOC, risk assessment, document updates and reviews etc.
- Delivery: Drive/champion Performance Excellence looking for opportunities to improve process/line/utility efficiency (throughput, yield, wastage, OEE, breakdowns, cost of poor quality, methodology etc). Ensure products are delivered to internal/external customers On Time and In Full (OTIF). Be an advocate for getting on the GEMBA to engage and support the teams…Support the Daily Operation Meeting (DOM) coordinating activities to resolves issues as they arise.
- Cost: Prepare, monitor and look to make savings in the yearly department budgets. Drive the yearly ambition to reduce costs in our maintenance activities.
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent organisation skills, attention to detail, accuracy and precision
- Excellent communication and IT skills
- Demonstrate a positive “can do” attitude and change management orientated individual
Education & Experience:
- Mechanical/Process Engineer with 10 years management experience.
- Knowledge and experience in all areas of Maintenance/Engineering disciplines such as: PLC/software, mechanical, electrical & welding etc.
- A comfortable, working knowledge of the IFS Cloud platform and how the different elements of the Assets and Service modules fit together.
- Ideally candidates will have worked within a GMP regulated facility.
- Ideally the candidates will be familiar with ISO9001, FSSC 22000, UFAS, FEMAS and NOPS regulations.
- Lean six sigma experience would be ideal.
- Experience with different software tool like IFS/SAP, Qlik, Microsoft (packages) also desirable.
