Job Summary: Ascension Catholic School is looking for a part-time reading teacher to support middle school students (grades 6–8) in developing strong literacy skills. This role focuses on improving reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking through engaging instruction tailored to diverse learning needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver reading instruction aligned with state standards
- Teach skills such as comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and text analysis
- Work with small groups and/or whole classes depending on scheduling needs
- Assess student reading levels and monitor progress over time
- Differentiating instruction to support struggling and advanced readers
- Incorporate a variety of texts, including novels, nonfiction, and digital resources
- Collaborate with English Language Arts teachers and support staff
- Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment
- Communicate with parents/guardians as needed regarding student progress
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Literacy, or a related field
- Valid state teaching certification (middle school or ELA preferred)
- Experience teaching or tutoring middle school students
- Strong understanding of reading instruction strategies and interventions
- Ability to engage and motivate adolescent learners
Preferred Qualifications:
- Reading specialist certification or literacy endorsement
- Experience with intervention programs or RTI/MTSS frameworks
- Familiarity with educational technology and digital reading tools
