The Athletic Director at St. Francis Xavier has the responsibility of running an athletic program that develops and respects all participants and promotes the program as an integral part of the education process at St. Francis Xavier. All staff are charged with modeling our core values and principles for our students and helping to deepen the faith life of students by fostering opportunities for students to connect with Christ, as our foundation and example.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and coordinate all athletic programs, and coordinate services pertinent to the efficient functioning of those programs.
- Initiate the recruitment and selection of all coaches and make employment recommendations to the principal; complete all HR paperwork for new hires and approve payroll work authorizations for all department staff.
- Supervise & evaluate all coaches before, during, and after the season.
- Facilitate weekly meeting times with “in season” SFX coaches.
- Ensure compliance with IHSA regulations and correspondence.
- Ensure coaches complete necessary IHSA paperwork for both themselves and teams.
- Serve as liaison for athletics to stakeholders within the school, the IESA, and other institutions.
- Supervise utilization of athletic facilities, including the scheduling and organizing of practice times and athletic events.
- Ensure officials are scheduled and contracts are issued for all contests.
- Create and coordinate the athletic handbook, bulletins, and master athletic calendars in conjunction with the school and parish.
- Monitor eligibility of student-athletes and ensure that coaches are enforcing eligibility rulings.
- Develop annual athletics department budget; review and control expenditures from athletics accounts, and manage accounting related to concessions.
- Provide coverage for various home and away contests throughout the year or delegate a person responsible to be the game administrator.
- Manage and assign all athletic gear, which includes but is not limited to equipment, uniforms, and spirit wear.
- Maintain athletic equipment and recommend purchases and replacements as needed.
- Ensure adherence to medical and safety requirements.
- Actively implement the Code of Conduct and disciplinary procedures as outlined in the Student Handbook.
- Act consistently in accordance with the stated mission, objectives, and policies of the School as articulated in the Employee Handbook.
- Model Catholic values as consistent with the mission of SFX and strive to support students in valuing and attaining those qualities.
The Archdiocese of Chicago offers a comprehensive total rewards package to include competitive compensation and benefit programs. This position has an annualized salary range of $20,000 - $23,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
