About The Role

Due to a significant workload, the Archaeological Services WYAS are seeking to recruit a project officer and field archaeologists for excavation.

The project officer role will be offered as a permanent position (subject to a probationary period). For the field archaeologist roles, initial six-month contracts will be offered, with permanent roles available in time, based on workload and suitable career progression. Casual employment for the field archaeologist role may be an option if suitable for the candidate (e.g. post-graduate student wanting part-time, flexible hours).

The positions are based in Morley, West Yorkshire and would be ideal for candidates looking to commute from Leeds, York, Bradford or Sheffield. While some of the fieldwork is based in Yorkshire, regular away work should be expected. Accommodation, expenses and an overnight allowance are provided whenever you are away.

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a great attitude. Applicants for these posts will have a degree in archaeology or a related discipline. The project officer will need a full UK driving licence due to a requirement to get their team to remote sites.

Applicants for the Project Officer post should have at least 5 years of experience in commercial archaeology at a senior supervisory level. In the interview, you will need to communicate well, demonstrate an ability to motivate others and show report writing skills. Applicants for the Field Archaeologist post will ideally have some experience of commercial archaeology and an enthusiasm for outdoor working.

Our standard week is 37 hours. The posts are advertised as full time (unless casual employment is requested). All appropriate training and high-quality PPE are provided.

Our leave allowance is very generous – up to 32 days plus bank holidays (depending on grade and length of service). Closing date: Friday 31st October at 17:00.
