Role Summary and Purpose
To achieve income and profit objectives through the delivery of an efficient case underwriting service to brokers through broker development, supporting the technical management of the NUH account in conjunction with UKR strategy, financial plan and personal objectives.
Responsibilities
- Service Existing Business whilst writing within risk selection, appetite and authority, working towards retention, loss ratio and rate targets.
- Achieve Bottom Line, Top Line and Expense targets by managing and operating to the Key Performance Indicators of NUH.
- Enhance Arch’s standing and presence nationally by establishing and maintaining strong personal relationships with broking partners.
- Display strong negotiation skills that aid conversion and relationships with all key brokers.
- Maintain and enhance personal knowledge of relevant technical topics.
- Handle referral cases above the authority levels of Underwriters, Trainee Underwriters and Apprentices, whilst adhering to individual authority level.
- Conduct regular case reviews to ensure that technical procedures and standards are followed, in accordance with the Company QA procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation, most notably the UKR regional offices.
Skills / Competencies
- Ideally at least 5 years’ experience in underwriting
- 2 years’ experience in underwriting Motor Trade risks
- Ability to negotiate flexibly and appropriately
- Demonstrates a range of influencing and negotiation approaches
- Risk perception/Risk selection skills
- Pricing of risk accordingly
- Successful development of effective trading relationships
- Consistent achievement of goals and objectives
- Experience working across functions / matrix organisation to collaborate and build strong relationships
- Operational effectiveness and efficiency
- Clear and effective communication
Qualifications
- Minimum A level standard preferred
- Professional Certification – progress towards Cert CII preferred

The job holder will ideally have experience in the Commercial Insurance industry, strong interpersonal skills and work in a structured, organised and planned manner.
