About Our Lerwick Team

The Lerwick team comprises expert maritime, civil and structural engineers, project managers and engineering technicians delivering a wide range of maritime and related projects across the Northern Isles.

You would be joining a well‑established team that is looking to develop as we embark on the next chapter.

The Role

Step into a pivotal leadership role where you’ll guide and inspire a talented team of 7 engineers.

As our Engineering Team Leader, you’ll shape the strategic direction of the team, drive high‑impact projects, and champion innovation across everything we do.

From steering financial planning and overseeing key proposals to empowering your colleagues through effective people management, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference and lead with purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Technical & Project Delivery
  • Prepare and review designs, calculations, inspections and structural analyses for maritime and associated structures.
  • Oversee and check models, drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Provide guidance to junior colleagues and act as Project Manager or Technical Manager.
  • Contribute to proposals, presentations and client meetings.
  • Strategic Leadership
  • Contribute to management team activities and help shape team direction, market focus and capability.
  • Support development and growth of the team to meet advisory group objectives.
  • Support business planning and delivery of revenue, added value and profit targets.
  • Contribute to the overall financial success of the advisory group.
  • Projects / Proposals
  • Lead and coordinate preparation and review of proposals and bids.
  • Work with ADAG to support high‑quality submissions and win work.
  • Clients / Markets
  • Help maintain order book targets for your team.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure high satisfaction.
  • Support marketing, business development, and client engagement activities.
  • People Management
  • Plan and manage team resourcing with ADAG, ensuring efficient use of capacity.
  • Support recruitment, succession planning and capability development.
  • Help lead development reviews, training planning and knowledge sharing.
  • Act as a first point of contact for new opportunities.

What you bring

  • Analytical ability to undertake design and analysis work with support from senior engineers for complex tasks.
  • Communication skills, clearly articulating orally and in writing the reasons behind your decisions.
  • Client orientation, understanding the importance of the client's perception of the organisation. Maintaining a professional client facing approach.
  • Conceptual ability, capable of undertaking design from concept to ready for construction.
  • Problem solving, thinking laterally and developing solutions to problems with others and on your own.
  • Relationship building, building a network within the immediate team, and the wider organisation.
  • Solution orientation delivering the project objective without losing focus in the detail.
  • Organised, disciplined, structured and consistent in the way you work.
  • Personable – approachable, relatable, and empathetic.
  • Civil or Structural Engineering Degree (or equivalent experience) and/or Project Management experience with a technical background.
  • Background in Maritime structures would be desirable but not essential.

Location

You will be based in one of our Aberdeen or Dundee offices, hybrid working is possible; however there is a desire for a minimum of 3 days working in the office.
