Role Summary and Purpose

To achieve income and profit objectives by delivering an efficient case underwriting service to brokers. To support technical management of the Motor account in conjunction with divisional strategy, financial plan and personal objectives. An essential part of the role is to be a key referral point for less experienced Underwriters, assisting with training and development of the team.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work with members of the management team to ensure that Motor Trade cases are managed effectively and that resource is sufficient.
  • Maintain good oversight of product retention, rate and underwriting strategies.
  • Reporting on key areas when required.
  • Manage own cases (renewal and new business), writing within risk selection, appetite, and authority.
  • Undertake referral cases above the authority levels of Underwriters, Trainee Underwriters & Apprentices, whilst adhering to individual authority level.
  • Support the personal development of the underwriting staff in the team by delivering training and technical guidance.
  • Enhance Arch's standing and presence nationally by establishing and maintaining strong personal relationships with key directors and staff at NUH's most important brokers.
  • Maintain and enhance personal knowledge of relevant technical issues.
  • Contribute to the technical knowledge of the Company by feeding back technical and commercial market intelligence to the NUH Underwriting Manager and wider team.
  • Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation, especially the regions, claims and survey teams, when required.
  • Conduct regular case reviews to ensure that technical procedures and standards are always followed.

Role Requirements & Skills

  • Understanding your insurance market - at least 5 years' experience in underwriting.
  • Proven broker account development and management.
  • Being able to negotiate flexibly and appropriately.
  • Effective selling skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Risk Perception.
  • Pricing of risk accordingly.
  • Successfully developing effective trading relationships.
  • Consistently achieving goals and objectives.
  • Experience working across functions / matrix organisation to collaborate and build strong relationships.

Qualifications

Minimum - Cert CII (Dip CII, or progress towards, is preferred).

Experience

The job holder will have at least 5 years Motor Trade Underwriting experience, strong interpersonal skills and work in a structured, planned manner.
