Introduction
Long Products Operations is seeking to appoint a Steel Maker. Responsibilities include:
- Attend shift meetings.
- Inspect cranes and identify defects to ensure safety.
- Complete crane inspection reports and notify supervisors and maintenance of faults.
- Assist maintenance with equipment work.
- Test cranes following inspection procedures.
- Communicate current status and test cranes with Snidjers.
- Remove slag in the vessel and place ladles on RH steel car.
- Position full ladles on the turret with lids, ensuring correct placement and clear camera view.
- Deslag ladles from the turret, ensuring no slag remains.
- Maintain good housekeeping to prevent injuries and keep the work area clean.
- Send weights of empty and full ladles to the database.
- Share knowledge and skills with colleagues to foster a learning environment.
- Assess new personnel using Safe Operating Procedures/Manuals.
- Assist team members with tasks outside your normal scope.
- Develop skills per Standard Operating Procedures and Manuals.
- Follow FPS Safety systems and adhere to 5S & SHERQ standards.
- Conduct pre-task risk assessments and report hazards.
- Stop work if unsafe.
- Report incidents, injuries, and hazards immediately.
- Support colleagues in working safely.
- Participate actively in safety meetings and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / NCV 4 (NQF 4/10)
Experience and Requirements:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in Secondary Metallurgy/Steelmaking operations, operating a 250-ton crane with a valid crane license.
- Ability to assess risks and knowledge of FPS Safety systems, 5S & SHERQ.
- Physically fit.
- Familiarity with crane inspection procedures and legal standards.
