Job Description
The Technology Lead is a pivotal leader in shaping the future of our mining operations. The job holder drives the identification, evaluation, and implementation of cutting‑edge technologies and innovative solutions across our global mine sites. This role blends strategic thinking, technical expertise, and cross‑functional collaboration. The Technology Lead will work closely with various departments to foster a culture of innovation, improving everything from operational efficiency and safety to long‑term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Innovation Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive innovation strategy aligned with the company’s long‑term goals.
- Identify and evaluate emerging technologies, trends, and best practices relevant to the mining industry (e.g., automation, robotics, AI/ML, data analytics, sustainable mining practices).
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and internal consultant on innovation to all levels of the organization.
Project Management & Implementation
- Lead cross‑functional teams to pilot and deploy new technologies and processes.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle, from ideation and business case development to implementation and post‑deployment review.
- Monitor and measure the impact of innovative initiatives on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as safety, productivity, and cost reduction.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Forge strong relationships with internal stakeholders across different mining operations, engineering, R&D, IT and environmental departments.
- Act as a central point of contact for innovation initiatives, collaborating with a large range of departments and facilitating workshops, brainstorming sessions, and pilot projects to test and validate new technologies.
- Collaborate with external partners, including technology suppliers, research institutions, universities and consortiums.
- Champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Qualifications & Leadership Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 5‑7 years in a technology leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and automation technologies as applied to the mining sector.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large‑scale technology projects from concept to deployment.
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of mining processes, including exploration, extraction, and processing.
- Multilingual ability and experience working in multicultural environments is an advantage.
Current Key Challenges (Optional)
- Creating and deploying centralized production dashboards.
- Pilot digital twinning initiative.
- Promote and lead mining autonomous equipment initiatives.
- Live tracking of stock inventories.
- Integrating disparate systems.
- Support change management.
- Develop digital skills within the different site’s workforce.
