As a Consultant Ecologist, you would be joining our team of over 50 ecologists with more than 30 years of experience undertaking ecological surveys and assessments, as well as the provision of advice on soil, land use, hydrological and sustainable drainage issues, arboriculture, ecosystem service, natural capital assessment, biodiversity strategies and metrics and cultural heritage. We have undertaken over 2,000 projects covering a wide range of environmental disciplines throughout the UK, in Europe and beyond, for public and private clients.
As part of our Environmental team, you’ll help improve quality of life. Your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality or noise. We work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations.
As a Consultant Ecologist, you will be accountable for the coordination and completion of assigned tasks and projects within the Business Unit or project team. You will be engaged upon an extensive portfolio of ecology schemes for construction and development projects which includes both standalone ecology projects and work for our internal clients.

- Undertake and assist on ecological surveys.
- Undertake the production of PEAs and assist with producing biodiversity strategies and other documents.
- Undertake and assist with licence applications, including developing mitigation and monitoring.
- Undertake/supervise mitigation and monitoring of licensed work and assist with liaison with statutory authorities.
- Partake in training with respect to best practice and survey standards, as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience in writing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and can contribute to the production of other ecological reports such as the scoping and baseline sections of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIAs) and biodiversity net gain reports.
- Demonstrates understanding of and applies environmental legislation, policy and guidance.
- Can identify a range of commonly found taxa/species associated with recognised broad habitat types, using keys and field identification guides.
- Ability to undertake extended Phase 1 habitat surveys.
- Ideally hold a survey licence for one or more species.
- Takes responsibility for ensuring own adherence to biosecurity and health and safety protocols.
- You will hold a relevant degree, ideally a secondary degree or accreditation.
- Be a member of CIEEM at the appropriate level.
- Excellent communicator.
- The ability to travel when necessary.
