Role description:
The Places Design Practice is currently seeking a career-minded Senior Engineer who has gained proven work experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering / urban development activities as part of buildings projects; including but not limited to, surface & foul drainage, utilities, ground/earthworks, and highways interfaces. The role will support the delivery of Urban Development services through the Places Design Practice, including working & collaborating with cross-GBA teams, GEC, and global Places expertise. Experience in Industrial Manufacturing / Tech / Defence projects would be welcomed.
Role accountabilities:
- Manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development and apply Arcadis Health and Safety Principles during the planning and delivery of work.
- Work in collaboration with other design disciplines, applying engineering solutions to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
- Agree and implement project approach for collaboration with global design colleagues.
- Prepare and manage design solutions for various stages of a project, including production management of drawings/BIM models, reports, and specifications.
- Attend project meetings and check the work of other team members to ensure accuracy.
- Identify and manage specific engineering management arrangements to complement Arcadis Integrated Management System requirements.
- Maintain technical ownership of Designer Hazard Logs, and communicate residual risks to the Principal Designer.
- Manage project planning and team coordination, including tasks, people, and resources.
- Provide technical ownership of project Design Decision Logs and Project Assumptions registers.
- As a technical design lead, contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects and provide technical guidance to other team members, such as more junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree qualified with Chartered or Incorporated status, though candidates close to achieving chartered status will also be considered.
- Relevant experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering / urban development activities as part of buildings projects is essential, including surface water & foul water drainage, highways and utility design.
- Expertise in software design methods such as MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil3D, and integration with BIM models.
- Sound knowledge of design standards (e.g., SuDS, SfA, DMRB, Building Regulations).
- Experience in project management, including planning, programming, commercial management, and client relationship management.
- Lead, provide direction, and technical advice to team members to support their delivery and professional development.
- Maintain and extend a theoretical approach to technology application in engineering practice and use a sound evidence-based approach to problem-solving.
- Technically competent in fundamental design principles and have ability to apply manual calculation methods where software methods are not available.
