Role Description

We are recruiting a Project Manager to join our UK Climate Adaptation team, managing a portfolio of water, civil engineering, and environmental projects. As part of our Programme and Project Management team, you will oversee delivery from mobilisation through to close-out, managing scope, programme, cost, risk, and quality to achieve measurable client outcomes. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver transformational results for multiple clients daily. Our team delivers flood defence and adaptation schemes and supports clients to protect and enhance environmental outcomes across England.

The Senior Project Manager will manage Water, Civil Engineering and Environment projects with a strong focus on NEC4 contracts, providing contractual advice and leading contract administration through the appraisal phase.

Role Accountabilities

  • Project manage civil engineering, water, and environment projects using NEC4 Professional Service Contract (PSC) and/or Engineering and Construction Short Contract (ESCS), including contract administration in accordance with the role of the Service/Project Manager on NEC contracts.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders—clients, contractors, consultants, and third parties—to ensure on-time, within-budget, high-quality delivery in accordance with the NEC contract administered.
  • Provide high-level advice and support to resolve appraisal issues, ensuring decisions are made on sound technical grounds in line with best practice, required standards, and timeframes.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement timely resolution to reallocate time, finance, and effort, enhancing service delivery.
  • Deliver high-quality management reporting to support operational planning, inform business decisions, and provide a sound basis for communication with and influence of internal/external partners.
  • Lead or support project teams to achieve well‑planned integrated solutions that progress effective change and improvement, supporting optimal environmental outcomes.
  • Provide effective leadership on health, safety and wellbeing matters, actively promoting safety awareness and ensuring safe working practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in project management and PSC contract management, delivering larger‑scale, complex, and demanding projects according to agreed outcomes.
  • Background in Civil Engineering, Water, Environment, or Infrastructure projects.
  • Track record of leading integrated and multi‑disciplinary project management teams.
  • Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Association of Project Management (APM), ISA Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
  • Desired: Flood Risk Management experience and/or a background within Civil Engineering.
