Overview
In this Principal Town Planner role, you will lead high‑quality town planning work within Arcadis’ integrated environmental team, supporting client delivery across sectors. You’ll mentor colleagues, manage performance, and guide bids to win work while strengthening relationships with clients and project leads. You will apply planning policy and development expertise to complex projects, driving practical solutions that support Arcadis’ mission of sustainable design and quality of life. This is a leadership position that blends technical delivery with business development and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver high-quality technical work, independently or with a team, following policy and best practice
- Manage performance of team members and subcontractors, addressing issues and escalating as needed
- Plan and prioritise work to ensure timely delivery with minimal supervision
- Collaborate with other sectors to ensure integrated, robust solutions and resolve complex issues
- Build and maintain relationships with project leads and clients and communicate progress and changes
- Coach and provide technical guidance to junior team members for project delivery and development
- Maintain deep knowledge of Arcadis services and client business to build credibility
- Develop and review proposal submissions to prepare high-quality winning bids
- Engage with Arcadis policies and processes and uphold General Business Principles
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (RTPI accreditation preferred)
- Chartered status or equivalent
- Significant experience in town planning or related profession
- Advanced proficiency with relevant desktop applications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong time management skills
- Effective technical, project management, client relationship management and commercial skills
- Good understanding of Environmental, Safety and Risk Management
