Principal Ecologist – Overview
As a Principal Ecologist you will join a team of over 50 ecologists and be responsible for leading ecological projects across the UK, Europe and beyond. You will help protect natural environments and water resources while delivering sustainable solutions for our clients.
Accountabilities
- Ensure quality control, coordination and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Lead and manage delivery of projects to meet time, budget and SHEQ targets.
- Maintain client relationships with ecological expertise and exceed expectations.
- Provide technical advice and leadership within the team.
- Support personal development and mentoring by industry‑recognised leaders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, biodiversity metrics, and relevant legislation.
- In‑depth knowledge of specific plant or animal groups and suitable field survey skills.
- Proven track record of delivering Pre‑liminary Ecological Appraisals, BNG assessments, EcIAs, and Ecology Chapters.
- Experience drafting Habitat Regulation Assessments.
- Excellent commercial and project‑management skills for diverse project sizes.
- Bid production experience and client interaction.
- Ability to line‑manage or lead a team.
- Hold survey and/or mitigation/conservation licences.
- Experience designing biosecurity and health & safety protocols.
- Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist or demonstrably approaching chartered status.
- Full member of CIEEM.
- Willingness to travel as required.
