Arcadis is excited to be expanding its Nuclear team, specifically focusing on Civil and Defence Nuclear across the country. We are looking for talented Assistant Project Managers/Project Managers to develop and implement an integrated project delivery model, governance, management arrangements, and delivery plans. You will manage the successful delivery of all project activities within your delegated authority and report into the project governance structure. The main areas of scope for Assistant Project Managers/Project Managers will include managing nuclear power station delivery, enabling works, site characterisation, associated developments, and major permissions and consents. The Project Management team will also collaborate closely with all aspects of the Project Delivery, such as the Commercial and Technical teams.
The purpose of this role is to provide effective management of major projects from inception to completion. As an Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager, you will work with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure the project is completed to the agreed scope, time, and budget, meeting the required nuclear industry quality standards, safely, and in line with the intended objectives and benefits. You could be part of establishing a major programme, offering you the opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of a national infrastructure project. While this is a fast‑paced and exciting challenge, you should be comfortable with uncertainty, ambiguity, and change.
Role accountabilities
- Assist in developing and implementing project plans, including defining scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk management strategies, while supporting budget management and using forecasting techniques under guidance from senior leadership.
- Support regular review sessions to ensure project strategies align with evolving needs and stakeholder expectations, escalating scope changes to senior team members and assisting with formal change control processes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation to ensure transparency and compliance with governance requirements, supporting audits and reviews as directed.
- Assist in identifying and assessing risks, contributing to the development of contingency plans to address resource constraints and ensure project progress under supervision.
- Coordinate quality control measures by assisting with audits and supporting adherence to engineering standards, nuclear industry regulations, and safety protocols.
- Prepare and deliver project reports using digital tools (e.g., Power BI or Excel) to provide stakeholders with visibility into project status, budget health, and risks, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies, to support contract execution, license approvals, and compliance efforts, escalating significant issues to senior management.
- Assist in negotiating and administering project agreements with external parties, such as local authorities and developers, under the guidance of senior team members.
- Contribute to resource planning by identifying current and future needs, coordinating recruitment or reallocation efforts with senior leadership.
- Promote collaboration within multidisciplinary teams by supporting alignment on project goals, facilitating team discussions, and assisting with cross-functional problem solving.
- Uphold organizational values by demonstrating integrity, transparency, and ethical behaviour in all project-related activities, while adhering to company policies and standards.
- Commit to professional growth by participating in training programs, staying up to date on project management methodologies, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Professional Project management qualification e.g. APM PMQ or PMI equivalent.
- Chartered Member (or working towards) or Full Membership of a relevant professional body (i.e. APM ChPP or APM MAPM).
- Experience working within the Nuclear sector is advantageous; however, a background in any regulated environment (e.g., Rail, Water, Energy) will also be considered.
- Basic understanding of nuclear industry regulations and safety requirements, with the ability to apply this knowledge to project management tasks under guidance.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities, with a focus on identifying and mitigating risks in complex systems.
- Ability to contribute to a collaborative and supportive environment, while helping develop team members' skills and capabilities by sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Flexible mindset, with the capability to embrace change and uncertainty, and adapt to the emergent aspects of the job.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi‑party environment, supporting the Senior Project Manager in maintaining project momentum and alignment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example within the project team, exhibiting integrity, professionalism, and ethical behaviour.
- Experience working within a startup or similar innovative environment is desirable, showcasing adaptability and comfort with uncertainty.
- Basic commercial acumen and ability to support relationship management with external stakeholders, assisting the Senior Project Manager as needed.
- You should be eligible to complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) working at OFFICIAL level; ideally hold UKSV Security Clearance (or have the eligibility to gain).
