Role description
Arcadis is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Architect to join our Education team.
This is a hands-on delivery role for a qualified architect who can independently lead and coordinate projects, manage day-to-day design and technical delivery, and act as the primary architectural lead within a multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will have proven experience delivering education projects and will be capable of running projects from briefing and concept design through technical delivery and construction.
They will balance design quality, technical excellence, stakeholder engagement and project management to achieve successful outcomes for clients.
Role accountabilities
- Act as Project Architect and lead the day-to-day delivery of education projects, ensuring successful outcomes across all RIBA stages.
- Manage project programmes, deliverables, resources, budgets and performance to meet project objectives and deadlines.
- Develop, coordinate and oversee design information across multidisciplinary consultant teams.
- Prepare, review and present design proposals, technical reports, presentations and project documentation.
- Lead BIM and digital design coordination, ensuring high-quality and integrated project outputs.
- Manage planning applications, Building Regulations submissions and other statutory approval processes.
- Produce and oversee detailed technical design packages suitable for tender, construction and project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act and relevant education-sector standards and guidance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, end users and stakeholders, leading workshops, meetings and design presentations.
- Coordinate and mentor project teams, support junior staff development, contribute to technical reviews, knowledge sharing and business development activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- ARB-registered Architect with RIBA Chartered Membership (or working towards chartered status).
- Significant post-qualification experience within a UK architectural practice environment.
- Proven experience acting as a Project Architect and leading projects as a Job Runner.
- Demonstrable experience delivering education-sector projects, including schools, colleges and universities.
- Strong knowledge and application of the RIBA Plan of Work across all project stages.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and managing project stakeholders.
- Strong technical design, detailing and project delivery capabilities.
- Proficiency in Revit and BIM workflows, including digital design coordination.
- Excellent communication, presentation, client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
- Understanding of Df E-funded projects, education-sector design guidance, Building Safety Act requirements, framework environments, MMC, sustainability and low-carbon design principles, combined with strong project leadership, collaboration, commercial awareness and problem-solving skills
