We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Leader to join and shape the future of a small, well-established team known as the Pump Centre who work with almost 300 clients within the Water Industry. These clients include the UK Water and Wastewater Utility companies, consultants engaged in the Water sector and many of the Water Industry supply chain equipment suppliers. The Pump Centre is a Centre of Excellence that offers its members a range of benefits & services for an annual fee. These benefits include access to the WIMES standards, which are maintained within the Pump Centre, access to training opportunities provided through members and recognised industry specialists, as well as organising a series of events including the annual Water Equipment Show, where suppliers to the Regulated Water sector exhibit their latest equipment and services.

The position is at Technical Director level and will lead the Pump Centre as a clearly defined business unit with full accountability for Profit & Loss. The successful candidate will need to have proven capability of managing a large client base and the ability to maintain the current level of service and performance whilst building and delivering a strategy for the future development and growth of the Pump Centre. The successful candidate will need to provide dynamic leadership, co-ordination, and deliver services, such as events, conferences and training, to the satisfaction of the membership. They will need to have proven client management skills and the ability to build and manage the pool of industry experts on which the services rely. They should have a practical understanding of commercial and contract management, and experience of the needs of the Water sector. The role necessitates the ability to work effectively across organisational boundaries, both internally and externally to Arcadis, and offers a pathway towards senior management positions.

Role accountabilities

  • Proactively managing the business unit to deliver the planned performance and grow the services to the satisfaction of both Arcadis and the Pump Centre members.
  • Working with multiple clients, taking ownership for the delivery of a range of benefits and services to all members.
  • Ensuring adequate resource for the delivery of the services and identifying needs to enable strategic recruitment where necessary.
  • Building a profile with a wide range of water industry clients and maintaining Arcadis’ reputation for high quality delivery and service.
  • Communicating with team members to ensure that they understand, and become engaged with, company and client processes, plans and initiatives.
  • Create and manage quality processes, ensuring a quality service to the members.
  • Plan, direct and control tasks, people and a large stakeholder community.
  • Lead the team and develop staff to meet changing needs.
  • Providing business leadership, direction, and pastoral care to team members, taking a proactive role in developing them to their full potential, leading by example to achieve business goals and championing a quality, innovative and entrepreneurial culture.
  • Resolving issues and providing guidance and support to other team members.
  • Being familiar with, and compliant with, relevant H&S regulations and promoting a culture of H&S awareness within the team.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your Client Manager or Arcadis Senior Leadership Team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • An experienced engineering professional with an in-depth knowledge of the Regulated Water sector.
  • A leader, able to provide direction support and motivation to the team.
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with people from other organisations and backgrounds, able to understand their needs and align these with the services of the Pump Centre.
  • A working knowledge of project & programme management.
  • A working knowledge of contract and commercial management.
  • An excellent communicator who enables, promotes, and drives technical excellence and client service.
  • Good people management skills, ensuring that the best talent is used to deliver the services effectively and efficiently.
