We're actively looking to recruit a Senior NEC Supervisor to join our Water Management team. Our team works on a variety of flood defence and adaptation projects and support our clients with the protection and enhancement of environmental matters across England. As a NEC Supervisor you will work on a range of Water, Civil Engineering and Utilities related projects and will be supported to deliver exceptional outcomes. The sheer size and complexity of projects we are involved with demand a joined‐up approach. Role accountabilities
- Contract Compliance: Act as the named NEC Supervisor under the contract, ensuring all works adhere to contract terms and technical specifications; Review and interpret contract documents, drawings, and specifications to verify contractor compliance; Advise the Project Manager on any contractual or technical issues affecting compliance; Monitor that the contractor follows approved methods and standards as specified in the contract.
- Inspection and Testing: Conduct regular and ad hoc inspections of construction activities, materials, and workmanship to verify quality and conformity; Witness and validate all key site tests, including materials and systems testing, as required by the contract; Ensure that the contractor's testing regime is in accordance with project requirements, and review test results and certificates for accuracy; Identify any deviations from specifications or standards and ensure defects are recorded, communicated, and remedied promptly.
- Defect Management: Identify, record, and notify the contractor of defects in accordance with NEC procedures; Track all defect notices, ensure appropriate remedial actions are taken, and confirm defects are rectified; Maintain an up‐to‐date defect register and communicate status to project stakeholders; Support resolution of disputes relating to defects by providing accurate records and evidence.
- Health, Safety & Environment: Monitor contractor compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements, reporting unsafe practices or conditions; Participate in regular safety audits and HSE meetings; Promote and enforce a culture of safety and environmental responsibility on site; Ensure environmental protection measures are implemented as per project and regulatory requirements.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive site records, including daily diaries, inspection logs, test certificates, and photographic evidence; Prepare clear, concise, and timely reports on quality, progress, and issues for the Project Manager and other stakeholders; Ensure that all documentation is managed and stored according to project protocols and NEC requirements.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the interface between the contractor, client, designer, and other project stakeholders on matters of quality and compliance; Attend progress meetings and collaborate with project teams to resolve issues and promote best practices; Communicate effectively to ensure all parties are informed of relevant issues, progress, and risks.
- Continuous Improvement & Lessons Learned: Proactively identify opportunities for process and quality improvements during construction; Capture and share lessons learned with the project team and wider business to support continuous improvement; Support the adoption of digital tools and innovative approaches to site supervision and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Proven experience as a Supervisor, Clerk of Works, or similar role on major infrastructure/construction projects.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (ECC, PSC, etc.).
- Up‐to‐date CSCS or relevant safety certification.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Desirable Skills
- NEC Supervisor accreditation or training.
- Experience in digital site supervision tools and reporting platforms.
- Understanding of BIM and digital construction methodologies.
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability standards.
