As a Senior Cost Consultant within our Cost and Commercial Assurance team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering commissions for our clients across a variety of sectors. This involves taking ownership, including management, of a cost verification exercise and the responsibility for timely delivery, through to the effective reporting and presentation of results. The role requires liaising with and presenting to both clients and contractors, managing programmes, obtaining information, and factually formulating audit findings and recommendations. A natural eye for detail is essential, with the ability to position financial and commercial context around the detail to enable our clients to make wider, impactful business decisions. The individual should remain output-focussed and empathetic to our clients’ points of view.
Role accountabilities:
- Manage individual cost verification commissions.
- Detailed evaluation of cost data against contractual/commercial principles.
- Detailed analysis and trending of cost data to identify patterns and key risks.
- Appraisal of cost/commercial management systems and processes.
- Undertaking statistical and non-statistical data sampling.
- Detailed cost verification and payroll & employment contract audits.
- Interfacing with project and finance staff to obtain and discuss key documentation/data.
- Management of stakeholders and their expectations through regular communications.
- Production of close-out reports and working papers.
- Presentation of outputs and recommendations to clients and their supply chain.
- Traveling to different sites/locations nationally and internationally to meet stakeholders.
- Mentoring junior staff and upskilling both internal and external stakeholders in cost and commercial assurance.
- Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and comply with organisational EDI policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
We’d ideally like you to be degree educated in Quantity Surveying, Accountancy, or a similar background. Professional Membership such as MRICS or ACCA/FCA would be advantageous but is not essential, as professional advancement will be supported.
Experience and skills that may be relevant:
- Understanding of different cost systems and processes (COINS, SAP, ICON, Oracle, etc.).
- Experience in identifying and assessing risks in project environments.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including a wide understanding of Excel functions.
- Power BI skills (beginner to intermediate) are desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of target cost and cost-reimbursable construction contracts.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work on own initiative.
- Effective communication with individuals at varying levels of seniority.
- Ability to understand, manage and interpret complex data sets from diverse sources.
- Ability to grasp high-level concepts and comfort with ambiguity.
- Demonstrates output thinking from the outset.
- Enjoys teamwork but is also comfortable working independently to tight deadlines.
