Our Transport Planning team are recruiting for an experienced Principal Transport Planner to manage projects and client accounts and lead teams focused on supporting clients to deliver their objectives and outcomes in London and the South East. A key focus for the role will be developing our strategic transport planning capability across local authorities and London Boroughs. Additionally, candidates will need to demonstrate bid writing experience and the ability to win pipeline opportunities.

The Transport Planning team is involved in some of the UK’s most high profile, complex and stimulating transport and development projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an enviable reputation in the delivery of some of the UK’s and indeed the world’s most prestigious and challenging projects.

Our client portfolio includes the National Highways, National Grid, Kent County Council, Surrey County Council, Homes England, HS2, and national housebuilders, architects, planners, land promoters and property developers.

The range and scale of Arcadis also provides the Transport Planning team the opportunity to work on a diverse range of multi-disciplinary projects through other parts of the business, including Buildings, Environment, Manufacturing Technology and Local Government.

  • Scheme Concept and Feasibility
  • Master planning Input and Advice
  • Travel demand management and behavioural change strategies
  • Sustainable and Active Travel inputs
  • Planning Application support
  • Public Consultation and Expert Witness
  • Local Plan preparation and evidence base
  • Local operational modelling and access design

The Transport Planning team operates across the UK, with a presence in Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland, the South East, Midlands, North of England, as well as offices in Wales. We require a proven Transport Planner to join our team in London or the South East (Guildford) to work on existing and upcoming projects.

This is an exciting time to join a growing team, with significant opportunities to work in parallel with the broader Arcadis placemaking offer, together with a wide range of internal and external clients.

You should be experienced in the successful delivery and management of projects and teams, ideally in both the private and public sectors. Educated to degree level or above, preferably in transport planning or traffic engineering. We are seeking a motivated individual, confident at communicating and presenting to internal and external clients.

The successful individual should have a rounded skill set in transport planning work, together with experience in public consultation, transport modelling, and report writing.

  • Significant experience in transport planning and strategy development.
  • Experience of working in large multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven business and client development skills.
  • Ability to be first point of contact with clients.
  • Able to produce quality bids.
  • Experience managing projects and teams.
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to oversee the production of technical documents.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
