Role description: Join our Safety Risk Management (SRM) team as a Principal or Senior Consultant. You will carry out safety and reliability analyses and risk assessment activities across a range of industry sectors and coach junior staff.

Role accountabilities:

  • Operating as the technical safety and/or reliability assurance technical lead on a variety of mission‐critical projects
  • Chairing Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) workshops
  • Review and quality‐assure SRM project outputs (e.g. documentation, reports, specifications) to ensure that they meet or exceed client expectations and Arcadis requirements and comply with national standards and codes of practice
  • Developing and managing project hazard records / logs
  • Undertaking Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Bow‐tie assessments
  • Fault Tree Analysis / Event Tree Analysis
  • Developing Engineering Safety arguments and justifications in support of design changes
  • Undertaking Reliability Assessments (typically using Reliability Block Diagrams)
  • Preparing / contributing to safety assurance documentation: Safety Plans, Safety Cases, Hazard Reports, System Definitions
  • Preparing / contributing to safety assurance documentation: Reliability Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Plans, RAM Analyses and other reliability assurance documentation
  • Performing Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), consequence analysis and/or dispersion modelling

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's (or higher) Degree in Engineering, Science or Maths subject (or similar numerate discipline)
  • Experienced as a Principal or Senior System Safety and Reliability / Risk Engineer within safety‐critical industries, such as Energy, Rail, Water Supply, Aviation, Nuclear, Automotive
  • Experience of working within the water supply or renewable energy sectors would be advantageous
  • Working knowledge and able to develop safety risk and reliability models using Reliability Block Diagrams, Fault Trees and Event Trees
  • Performing Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) using a variety of techniques
  • Undertake HAZIDs/ HAZOPs and develop Safety Cases
  • Knowledge of Engineering Safety Management and experience of applying the Common Safety Method (CSM), Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 (ROGS) and BS EN50126, 50128 and 50129 for RAM
  • Must be proactive, solution‐orientated and be able to utilise experience, knowledge and skills to carry out bespoke risk assessments

Desired:

  • Ability to read electrical schematic block diagrams and engineering drawings
  • Use of the Isograph Reliability Workbench or similar software applications
  • Experience working across more than one mission‐critical industry, e.g. Rail, Energy, Water and Process Industry (incl. Oil & Gas), Aerospace & Defence
  • Experience delivering consequence analysis and/or dispersion modelling
