In this role you will act as the FIDIC Engineer on a landmark, high-value data centre development in Northumberland, administering the FIDIC Red Book contract and ensuring clear, auditable contract administration. You will issue and review notices, certificates, and determinations, and support dispute avoidance through rigorous record-keeping and evidence-based decisions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage progress, variations, payments, and time-related risk while upholding governance procedures. Responsibilities

  • Administer the Contract in line with General Conditions, Particular Conditions, and governance procedures
  • Issue and manage notices, certificates, determinations, and correspondence; maintain registers and logs
  • Review Contractor’s programme, monitor progress, assess time-related risks, and manage EOT processes
  • Administer Contractor’s documents, quality procedures, inspections, tests, defects, and related records
  • Coordinate with Employer’s Personnel, project management team, technical consultants, cost consultant, and safety advisors
  • Review payment applications, administer variations, assess claims, and support commercial administration
  • Administer Taking-Over, Defects Notification Period, and Performance Certificate processes
  • Maintain transparent, auditable records to support decision-making, dispute avoidance, and compliance
  • Prepare weekly and monthly contract administration reports and attend progress meetings
  • Provide day-to-day contractual risk advice and determine required actions

Key requirements

  • Strong experience administering FIDIC Red Book contracts on major construction projects
  • Detailed understanding of notices, instructions, determinations, variations, payment certification, EOTs, claims, and taking-over processes
  • Ability to act neutrally and fairly in determinations
  • Strong record-keeping, audit trail, and correspondence discipline
  • Experience collaborating with project teams, cost consultants, technical consultants, and contractors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for precise contractual correspondence
  • Ability to operate in a complex, fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
