Role description
- Provide professional leadership at a senior management level, primarily in Energy Storage projects, with main focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and also including hydrogen and pumped storage hydro.
- Establish and consolidate relationships with clients, take ownership of the delivery of the region’s technical capability and support the delivery of projects or specialised components of projects.
- Support the development of Arcadis capability in Energy Storage and build and maintain a professional reputation as an individual and for Arcadis.
- Take a leadership role within the project team, providing direction and leading by example where appropriate.
- Oversee the training of team members, encourage their growth and facilitate professional development.
- Manage the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
- Manage all aspects of the client relationship so that delivery meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Work to ensure maximum client satisfaction, champion client care and proactively work with clients.
- Promote both the regional and global culture of the business.
- Provide temporary embedded support to key clients as required.
Role accountabilities
- Lead by example to promote continual improvement in SHE performance across the business.
- Build relationships with clients to identify and realise business opportunities and to ensure that client expectations and Arcadis’ commercial objectives are met or exceeded.
- Engage with and champion the involvement and inclusion of Arcadis Global Design resources, facilitating two-way feedback on the performance of project teams using Arcadis Global Design resources.
- Provide technical leadership at a subject level.
- Evaluate technical competence of staff proposed for projects and identify specific training and mentoring needs.
- Take technical line management responsibility for the development and performance management of team members to support the delivery of Arcadis’ business.
- Support recruitment process and be personally involved in the selection process of engineering staff at all levels within the Energy Storage team.
- Lead the technical delivery of complex projects ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues.
- Ensure that local staff understand the benefits of their utilisation as team resources.
- Lead on the design of innovative engineering solutions for clients that resolve complex problems.
- Coach and mentor engineering professionals to support the development of Arcadis’ talent pool.
- Oversee the delivery of projects to time, meeting both quality and budgetary targets, whilst striving to exceed client expectations.
- Perform independent technical review for complex and/or major projects.
- Encourage innovative and entrepreneurial thinking amongst team members.
- Promote and market all facets of the company’s services during client interfaces.
- Manage technical client relationships with key clients and play a major role in the tendering/proposal process.
- Promote effective and efficient bid management and contribute to Go-No-Go discussions as appropriate.
- Provide input into specific technical aspects of individual bids to support the production of high-quality winning pursuits.
- Keep up to date with developments in the industry sector and with technical and legislative developments and seek out suitable opportunities to develop a strong professional profile at a National level.
- Maintain records of Continuing Professional Development and make these available for audit by their professional institution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant knowledge and track record in an Energy Storage engineering role.
- A first degree in an Electrical Engineering, Energy Storage or Renewable Energy discipline.
- Membership of a professional engineering body e.g., the IET.
- Chartered Engineering status with an appropriate professional engineering body, or the ability to achieve this in future.
- Significant knowledge and track record in the development and delivery of Energy Storage projects.
- Demonstrable experience in the delivery of Energy Storage projects and their associated grid connections.
- Detailed understanding of embedding Energy Storage in both transmission and distribution networks.
- The ability to identify the limits of both their personal knowledge and the limits of their team's skill and knowledge.
- Exercise sound holistic independent judgement and take responsibility for results achieved.
- Understand and comply with the Code of Conduct operated by professional institutions.
- Plan, carry out and record personal development and career CPD and encourage others to do the same.
- Engage with activities promoted by appropriate UK professional institutions.
