The Places Design Practice is currently seeking a career minded Civil Engineer who has gained proven work experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering / urban development activities as part of buildings projects; including but not limited to surface & foul drainage, utilities, ground/earthworks, and highways interfaces. The role will support the delivery of Urban Development services through the Places Design Practice, including working with cross-GBA teams, GEC, and global Places expertise. Experience in Industrial Manufacturing / Tech / Defence projects would be welcomed.
Responsibilities
- Undertake the civil engineering design for projects, contributing to sustainable development and apply Arcadis Health and Safety Principles during the planning and delivery of work.
- Work in collaboration with other design disciplines, applying engineering solutions to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
- Agree and implement project approach for collaboration with global design colleagues.
- Prepare design solutions for various stages of a project, including production of drawings/BIM models, reports, and specifications.
- Attend project meetings and check the work of other team members to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across design, environmental, and construction disciplines.
- Identify and implement specific engineering management arrangements to complement Arcadis Integrated Management System requirements.
- Prepare Designer Hazard Logs, and communicate residual risks to the Principal Designer.
- Provide technical input to project Design Decision Logs and Project Assumptions registers.
- Contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects and provide technical guidance to other team members, such as more junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree qualified with Chartered or Incorporated status, though candidates close to achieving chartered status will also be considered.
- Relevant experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering / urban development activities as part of buildings projects is essential, including surface water & foul water drainage, highways and utility design.
- Expertise in software design methods such as MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and integration with BIM models.
- Strong understanding of applicable design codes, standards, and construction principles (e.g., SuDS, SfA, DMRB, Building Regulations).
- Maintain and extend a theoretical approach to technology application in engineering practice and use a sound evidence-based approach to problem-solving.
- Technically competent in fundamental design principles and have ability to apply manual calculation methods where software methods are not available.
