As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Scotland based Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record of leading the environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with particular experience in winning and delivering work in the environmental planning sector within Ireland.

As part of our Environmental team, you’ll help improve quality of life. With your specialism in environmental management, or your technical or sustainability expertise, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality or noise.

We work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we’re feeling the effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The rate at which we’re seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires is becoming more frequent.

You will be working on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects as well as more small scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation.

You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning/environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes.
  • Strong business development, create project opportunities and lead delivery of projects to build our portfolio in Ireland.
  • Raise awareness of our services, winning new opportunities and building new contacts.
  • Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example creating cross selling opportunities for the wider business.
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
  • Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.
  • Work closely with existing and established Arcadis colleagues across our Global Business.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Excellent working knowledge of the environmental and consenting process in Ireland, from EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
  • Experience across a range of project types.
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
  • A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work.
