Role description

This opportunity sits within the Asset Management Transformation team, part of our growing UK Business Advisory (Management Consulting) practice. It focuses on enhancing the organisational maturity of clients to maximise value from built or natural assets over the lifecycle, underpinned by best practices, innovation, better strategies and planning, upskilling workforces and data-led decision-making.

Our Asset Management Transformation (Business Advisory) team provides advice and delivers change programmes for clients across infrastructure, asset types and sectors including Rail, Roads, Water and Electricity Utilities, Defence, Environment, Central and Local Government. Our experts collaborate with specialists across Arcadis to provide market insights and practical implementation advice. The scope of our services includes:

  • Transformation strategy and capability development across business, data and digital
  • Strategic asset management planning and decision support through the whole lifecycle
  • Benefits-led decision making for asset or capability improvement projects and portfolios
  • Operational process and performance improvement
  • Regulatory, risk and resilience advisory

Role accountabilities

The Asset Management Transformation team has growing, diverse membership with expertise in helping clients maximise value from assets over their lifecycle. We are seeking an Associate Director to join its leadership and drive success and exceptional client experience within an inclusive environment.

The successful candidate will bring experience in asset management transformation and market intelligence within relevant industries (Infrastructure, Transportation, Water, Energy, Utilities, Defence, etc.), with strong business development, sales generation, team leadership, stakeholder engagement and relationship development skills in a consulting environment.

Specifically, the role involves:

  • Leading significant client projects and accounts from sales to solution design and delivery, managing multi-disciplinary teams and delivering commercial outcomes for Arcadis.
  • Diagnosing and solving complex asset-centric issues across large-scale engagements with practical, value-delivering solutions.
  • Leading teams using insights on markets, trends, risks and opportunities to inform solutions and recommendations.
  • Leading business development and sales for value propositions and bids to grow the Asset Management Transformation capability and Business Advisory unit.
  • Managing delivery of exceptional client experience from mobilisation through handover, understanding client needs and building lasting relationships.
  • Being a subject matter expert and developing offerings, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Active member of the UK&I and Global asset management community of practice, supporting solution development.
  • Providing line management, coaching and mentoring to future talent.
  • Supporting and owning aspects of team strategy and capability building.
  • Supporting the on-project development of team members’ skills to help achieve career goals.

Qualifications & Experience

Ideally you are a proven professional in the natural or built asset environment, from an asset-owning/operating, or a consulting background, with demonstrable experience in growing a business and building client relationships. You should be a problem solver who can understand client needs and provide impactful solutions.

You will also have the following key skills and expertise:

  • Demonstrable track record of leading asset management or management consulting projects in relevant sectors (Infrastructure, Transportation, Water, Energy, Utilities, Defence, etc.).
  • Thought leadership in asset lifecycle phases (strategy and planning, design and build, operations and maintenance, or decommissioning) and in the following services: asset management operating model design, ISO 55001 aligned asset management system development, regulatory business planning and adaptive planning, asset portfolio investment prioritisation and optimisation, benefit-led prioritisation and business change programmes, operational efficiency improvement, asset information and data maturity improvement, and significant experience in business development, bidding and securing sales.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience at senior levels (including Board/Exec).
  • Strong leadership, collaboration and commercial management abilities.
  • Ability to understand business problems and build practical improvement recommendations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; relevant industry qualifications in Business Advisory or Asset Management are preferable (e.g., MCA, IAM or related) or working towards one.
