We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated Assistant Project Manager to join our Highways team. You will support the delivery of distinct elements of projects and contribute to the delivery of overall programmes of work. You will be required to work independently and have a depth of technical knowledge and experience in the Rail, Highways or Aviation sectors. This role will involve travel 2-3 days per week to project sites, so a flexible attitude and ability to travel is a must.
Role accountabilities:
- Work within established financial procedures to assist in the production of basic plans and schedules for projects, and monitor and review financial information, in order to identify any anomalies or discrepancies and ensure management has access to up-to-date and accurate information on projects.
- Individually contribute to a range of professional assignments and monitor in order to support the delivery of projects to time and quality standards.
- Independently collate and interpret data to prepare documents including project plans and schedules.
- Analyse data and trends on projects to develop simple recommendations to support senior colleagues in their decision-making process.
- Take a proactive role in monitoring and evaluating existing project management processes in order to identify opportunities and provide advice for the improvement of processes and systems.
- Complete complex, professional level tasks as requested by colleagues, prioritising case load and interpreting established policies in order to effectively support the project management function.
- Liaise with stakeholders from across the business to provide specialist advisory support to internal clients, acting as a focal point for operational project queries and ensuring that there is alignment between policy and operational practice.
- Accountable for delivery of timely and accurate data collection, analysis and reports.
- Responsible for interpreting and communicating project support policies, processes and systems.
- Responsible for monitoring, interpretation and escalation of project management KPIs and performance metrics.
- Responsible for communicating and highlighting project process compliance issues to project managers.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Working towards a relevant professional certification or chartered status, APM or Engineering institution.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise with peers and senior colleagues and build and maintain relationships.
- Relevant business experience, including experience supporting large and complex projects.
- Preferred experience in a regulated transportation sector: Highways, Aviation or Rail.
- Commercial awareness and organisational understanding. Knowledge of the NEC 4 suite of contracts would be beneficial.
- Strong numeric skills to be able to manage and analyse complex data.
- A logical approach and ability to think through complex issues to co-ordinate multi-faceted aspects of projects.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and systems, including MS Office suite.
