About Us:
Due to growth our client in Stowmarket are seeking an experienced and driven Transport Manager to lead their transport operations and drive continuous improvement. This is a key role in their skip hire and waste management operation, based at their Head Office in Stowmarket, with regular visits to operational sites.
Role Overview:
As Transport Manager, you\’ll take responsibility for the safe, legal, and efficient running of our fleet operations. You\’ll lead compliance efforts, manage vehicle maintenance, and help drive a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the business.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee and ensure timely completion of 6-weekly PMIs, MOTs, LOLER inspections, and road tax renewals

Investigate service failures and non-compliance issues, implementing corrective actions where needed

Monitor post-repair vehicle performance and minimise downtime through effective servicing

Ensure drivers correctly report and record vehicle defects

Manage vehicle load compliance and ensure all authorised vehicles are kept at designated operating centres

Recommend vehicle replacements and specifications to maximise efficiency and cost-effectiveness

Maintain accurate vehicle branding and signage

Liaise with insurers and internal teams to reduce fleet-related accidents and manage claims

Organise and lead driver meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings

Promote and maintain high health & safety standards

Collaborate with driver trainers and Site Managers to deliver effective in-house training

Monitor driver compliance with safety and legal requirements, including hours and tachograph use

Work with sales and account teams to review customer feedback and drive improvements

Required Qualifications & Experience

CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – Essential

Proven experience in a similar transport or fleet management role

Strong working knowledge of relevant transport legislation and compliance

Solid IT skills, including MS Office

Strong understanding of health & safety and driver regulations
