You’ll be responsible for underwriting and pricing scheme business across our portfolio and work closely with our insurer capacity providers, as well as our Commercial and Product teams; discuss and underwrite technical cover queries, develop pricing proposals and review scheme performances.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Pricing and underwriting new scheme opportunities
- Reviewing performance and profitability of existing scheme portfolios
- Analysing data including loss ratios, trends and underwriting performance
- Producing pricing models, MI and renewal recommendations
- Writing and explaining clear and considered underwriting rationales
- Working within binding authority limits and escalating referrals where required
- Maintaining strong relationships with insurer and underwriting partners as well as internal stakeholders
- Supporting the ongoing development and improvement of pricing models, underwriting processes and subject matter thought leadership
This is a highly analytical role, with significant use of Excel, and would suit someone who enjoys working with data and making complex portfolio-level underwriting decisions; rather than individual case underwriting.
About You: We’re keen to speak to candidates with strong technical underwriting capability. While experience in Legal Expenses Insurance would be ideal, it isn’t essential provided you bring the right analytical and underwriting background.
Essential:
- Proven underwriting experience within insurance
- Experience of scheme, portfolio or pricing‑led underwriting (rather than case‑by‑case)
- Strong risk assessment and analytical skills
- Advanced Excel capability, including working with large spreadsheets and data sets
- Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
Desirable:
- Legal Expenses Insurance knowledge
- Experience working with scheme or delegated authority business
- Exposure to pricing or actuarial‑style underwriting work
- CII qualifications (or working towards)
