We are recruiting on behalf of a highly respected main contractor with a strong pipeline of secured work across the East of England. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in Bury St Edmunds, working on high-profile projects valued between £45m and £70m. The Role
As Project Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of large-scale construction projects from pre-construction through to final account. Working closely with the Commercial Manager and Project Team, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Full commercial management of projects valued between £45m and £70m.
- Procurement and management of subcontractor packages.
- Preparation, negotiation, and agreement of subcontract documentation.
- Cost planning, forecasting, and reporting.
- Management of valuations, variations, and change control processes.
- Preparation and submission of client applications and final accounts.
- Risk and opportunity management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
- Supporting junior commercial team members where required.
- Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.
About You
We are looking for a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with experience working for a main contractor on large-scale construction projects.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Project Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting environment.
- Experience managing significant construction packages and subcontract accounts.
- Strong understanding of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT and NEC.
- Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Strong reporting and cost management capabilities.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
Highly Desirable Experience
Experience delivering projects within any of the following sectors would be particularly advantageous:
- Education (Schools, Colleges, Universities)
- Ministry of Justice (MOJ)
- Ministry of Defence (MOD)
- Department for Education (DfE)
- Other public sector frameworks and government-funded developments
Candidates with experience working on large-scale commercial, public sector, or framework projects for Tier 1 or leading regional contractors will be especially well suited to this opportunity.
