Pensions Lawyer – In-House

Remote / Hybrid Working | UK-wide applications welcomed

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Pensions Lawyer to join a major UK organisation in a senior specialist in-house role.

This is a rare opportunity for a pensions lawyer looking to move in-house, or an existing in-house specialist seeking a broad and commercially focused position with significant autonomy, flexibility and senior stakeholder exposure .

The role sits at the intersection of pensions law, commercial contracting, outsourcing and risk management , supporting the business on complex and strategically important matters.

The Role

Acting as a specialist pensions lawyer within the legal team, you will provide practical and commercially focused advice across a broad range of pension matters.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on pension issues arising from outsourcing, insourcing, retendering, contract extensions, restructures and employee transfers
  • Providing pensions advice in relation to TUPE transfers and public sector contracts
  • Supporting commercial and bid teams on the pensions implications of new business opportunities
  • Drafting and negotiating pension provisions within commercial contracts
  • Advising on pension funding issues, actuarial reports, exit deficits and exit credits
  • Advising on pension bonds, guarantees and other security arrangements
  • Supporting pension scheme participation and admission arrangements
  • Working with pension funds, scheme administrators, actuaries and external legal advisers
  • Providing clear and pragmatic advice to senior stakeholders across Legal, Finance, HR, Reward, Payroll and Business Development

The role will have particular exposure to public sector pension arrangements including LGPS, NHSPS and PCSPS , although previous experience across all of these areas is not essential.

About You

You will be a qualified solicitor, barrister or equivalent legal professional with strong pensions experience gained either in private practice or in-house .

You are likely to have:

  • A strong grounding in pensions law
  • Experience advising on complex and commercially significant pension matters
  • The ability to understand and communicate the commercial implications of pension liabilities, funding and risk
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • A pragmatic and commercial approach to legal advice
  • The confidence to operate with a high degree of autonomy

Experience of public sector pensions, outsourcing, employee benefits and/or commercial contracting would be particularly useful, but you do not need to have covered every aspect of the role previously.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an unusual opportunity to take on a genuinely specialist in-house pensions role within a substantial organisation.

You will work on complex, high-value commercial matters and have the opportunity to become a trusted specialist adviser to senior stakeholders across the business.

The position offers high levels of autonomy, interesting and varied work and significant working flexibility .

Remote working is available and applications are welcomed from pensions lawyers across the UK.
