Job Description
We are working with one of the leading global corporate banks, whose London EMEA legal team is now looking for a Leveraged Finance lawyer to join their Leveraged Finance business on a permanent basis.
This is newly created role as this bank’s leveraged finance (lev fin) business continues to grow.
What will the role involve:
- support and help manage the legal risks of the lev fin business;
- advise and direct the lev fin front office/origination functions and senior internal stakeholders in London and across the EMEA region on transactional matters;
- review, draft and negotiate new and existing banking and finance and ancillary documentation (including syndicated and loan documentation based on sponsor/ market precedent, Loan Markets Association documentation or otherwise) and associated financing and mandate documents
- monitor and advise on regulatory matters affecting loans e.g. bail-in, EMIR;
- work closely with the legal team and other departments such as credit, operations and back-office teams advising them on legal issues, structuring, documenting and negotiating deals;
- advise customers/sponsors of the bank where required in relation to a range of transactional and commercial documentation and legal issues;
- represent the Legal department in important bank wide projects and committees.
What technical skill-sets are we looking for?
- Qualified lawyer 4 years+ PQE from a reputable law firm or financial institution;
- A specialist in lev fin, and we are open to experience on both bank and borrower-side;
- Strong expertise with market standards as well as market standard loan documentation and latest terms;
- The ability to advise on complex legal/documentation terms, structuring points and financial law/regulation, identify risks and devise appropriate legal solutions/outcomes under time pressure.
What softer skills are we looking for?
- The ability to build solid interpersonal relationships with stakeholders and to be a team player;
- To be open and approachable;
- Robust and confident to work effectively with the front office and originators and be able to appropriately challenge/advocate change at all levels of the organisation.
This is a unique role and a great opportunity for a leveraged finance lawyer to join a leader in the lending space and sit with a top-tier origination team working on deals from term sheet through to signing.
