Our client delivers a full suite of corporate finance products and solutions to their customers, as well as investment banking and advisory services, and a range of innovative solutions in global capital markets. They are leaders in the global corporate banking sector, have a universal banking platform, an international growth agenda and a range of award-winning products.

We have a unique and exciting opportunity for a Sanctions Lawyer to join this bank’s established and growing legal team in London, City to provide advice across the EMEA region. Due to an uptick in sanctions work over the past few years, this bank is now hiring for its first ever dedicated Sanctions Lawyer. This is a great opportunity for someone to carve out the role and really ‘make their mark’.

What will the role involve?

  • Advise on the impact of sanctions regimes (including UK, EU and other sanctions regimes, with external counsel support, as required) in relation to the bank’s corporate strategy and risk appetite framework.
  • Work closely with front office teams and with senior stakeholders – this is quite a visible role.
  • You will also advise on financial crime in this role, but you do not have to have this type of experience to apply for the role, although it would be useful.
  • Correspondingly you will work closely with Compliance department, and the Compliance Sanctions team in particular.

What are we looking for?

  • A minimum of six years’ PQE.
  • Solid private practice background in a broad range of sanctions for at least 3 years.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK and EU sanctions law.
  • Ideally a good understanding of banking, finance and capital markets. Coming from a financial services background would be useful, whether that be in a law firm or in-house.
  • Financial crime experience is a ‘nice to have’ but not essential, but will form part of this role.
