Our client is a global corporate and investment bank in growth mode. This organisation offers a full suite of corporate finance products, investment banking and advisory services, and a range of innovative solutions in global capital markets. They have a universal banking platform, a range of award-winning products and an international growth agenda.
This growth has prompted the creation of a new role for a Senior Debt Capital Markets Lawyer, who will form part of the EMEA Senior Legal Management Team (at Executive Director level) and who will report directly to the EMEA General Counsel. The overriding function of the position will be to ensure that complex legal and regulatory matters are disseminated into deal-ready guidance to avoid issues/delays in the execution and development of the deal pipeline. The Team Head of Capital Markets Legal (who oversees 8 legal professionals) will report into this role.
More specifically the role will entail:
- Advising the bank on the operation and development of capital solutions products from vanilla to more structured (e.g. EMTN/GMTN programmes, securitisation, CLOs and repackagings);
- Collaborating with business heads and the EMEA Senior Legal Management Team on firm-wide initiatives to improve the efficiency and resilience of the Capital Markets Legal team to changes in market activity;
- Working closely with the Origination team (including pitch participation) and Syndicate team on deal structuring and also advising both on legal risk during live transactions;
- Collaborating with the deal/product approval committees to improve governance processes;
- Advising the Board on legal matters covering both businesses, whether related to new/existing products, operational matters or future strategy.
It is rare for a bank of this size to create new roles at this level, but this is a testament to the impressive performance this business continues to create, so it’s a great time to join this organisation.
We are looking for candidates who have built their post-qualification legal career in debt capital markets and have already occupied a senior role, with a history of working with the highest echelons of senior management (Board/Exco). The successful candidate needs to excel in both a business and client-facing role, at times, so you must be an excellent communicator and be adept at forging new relationships and inspiring trust across all stakeholders.
Our client will remunerate the successful candidate with a competitive base salary, discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits package. Due to a high volume of applications, we will only respond to those we deem suitable for the role.
