Job details
This role is central to the day‑to‑day success of the business and contributes directly to operational performance and customer outcomes. As an Ecology Summer Intern, you will be responsible for delivering high quality bat emergence and re‑entry surveys (BERS) and preparing reports for our clients, working closely with colleagues across the business to ensure high standards of delivery, compliance and continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on and self‑starting role suited to someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and making a tangible impact.
What you will do
- Conduct bat emergence/re‑entry surveys (primarily dusk, occasionally dawn). You will typically be asked to do 4‑5 BERS per week.
- Analyse data from the previous night’s survey (including bat calls), write reports, map and handle project admin (client communication, system updates).
- Possibility to undertake additional training and shadowing on other survey types (Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Preliminary Roost Assessments and other protected species surveys) depending on workload.
- Travel to sites using your own reliable transport. Travel costs reimbursed at £0.45 per mile, with an additional £0.10 for rideshare.
- Work may be allocated within a 2½‑hour travelling radius; occasional longer travel may require overnight stays, which will be covered by the company.
- BERS surveys occur outside normal business hours, so it is not compatible with a second job.
Who you are
You are an experienced and motivated professional with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset. You will ideally:
- Live in England or Wales.
- Have the right to live and work in the UK.
- Be available for the duration of the internship.
- Have native or professional fluency in English.
- Be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Have your own means of transport for the contract period.
- Be able to do occasional overnight stays.
- Have strong motivation and desire to work hard.
- Possess outstanding organisational skills.
- Be flexible to respond to last‑minute changes.
Join us
You’ll be joining a business where your contribution matters and where professionalism, integrity and teamwork are genuinely valued. As part of the wider Celnor Group, you’ll benefit from group‑wide investment, shared expertise and opportunities to develop your career as the organisation grows.
Benefits
- Salary of £26,500 pro‑rate.
- 40 days of paid leave.
- Comprehensive medical insurance.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Pension scheme.
- Equipment and tools to support your role.
