Arbour Academy is a specialist SEMH provision within the Kings Academy Trust, offering a small, nurturing environment for young people who are unable to access mainstream education. We are committed to a trauma‑informed approach, where strong relationships, high expectations and personalised support enable pupils to re‑engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes. We are seeking a committed and resilient Cover Supervisor to join our team. This role is central to maintaining continuity of learning during the short‑term absence of teaching staff, ensuring that pupils remain engaged, supported and able to make progress in a calm and structured learning environment.
Working closely with teaching staff and senior leaders, you will supervise classes across the curriculum, deliver pre‑planned learning activities, and promote high standards of behaviour and engagement. You will also provide targeted support to individuals and small groups, contributing to the wider pastoral and academic development of our pupils. This is a non‑teaching role, ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people, has strong behaviour management skills, and is passionate about supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential. We are looking for someone who is calm, adaptable and highly organised, and who thrives in a collaborative and supportive school environment.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise whole classes during the short‑term absence of teaching staff, delivering pre‑prepared learning activities.
- Ensure pupils remain on task, engaged and productive throughout lessons.
- Promote positive behaviour and manage conduct in line with academy expectations and policies.
- Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding pupil engagement, behaviour and progress.
- Support pupils working in alternative provision, intervention spaces or behaviour support programmes.
- Assist teaching staff with learning resources, classroom preparation and targeted student support.
- Undertake supervisory duties, including break times, lunch times, educational visits and examinations.
- Support the wider life of the academy through participation in meetings, training and enrichment activities.
- Contribute to safeguarding, attendance and pastoral support systems across the school.
- Has experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work or similar setting.
- Can confidently manage groups of young people and maintain positive learning environments.
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is calm, resilient and able to respond effectively to challenging situations.
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, including those who may face barriers to learning.
- Works well independently and as part of a wider team.
- Has strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
