As a Team Leader, you’ll play a vital role in leading and supporting a team to provide high‑quality care in our children’s homes. You’ll ensure a safe and nurturing environment, helping young people reach positive outcomes by addressing their physical, emotional, and practical needs. Your leadership will guide the team in achieving a better quality of life for the children in your care.
Key Responsibilities – Support to Young People
- Maintain a high quality of care and support that meets the practical, physical, emotional and behavioural needs of the young person within our care.
- Provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which the young person can feel secure and free from harm.
- Establish positive, trusted and secure relationships with the young person ensuring professional boundaries.
- Be a positive role model to the young person, rewarding positive conduct.
- Attend to practical matters in relation to childcare and the family environment (cooking, cleaning, general maintenance around the home etc.).
- Keep accurate written records on young people which feed into planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as appropriate.
- Empower the young person and facilitate their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future, sensitively supporting them where it may not be possible to act on their wishes.
- Support the young person in meetings with relevant professionals including social workers, CAMHS and LAC nurse.
- Participate in the development and implementation of risk assessments to protect team members and the young person.
- Ensure that the home operates in compliance with all relevant legislation including H&S, GDPR and care standards.
Key Responsibilities – Support to Team
- Be aware of the aims and outcomes of the home and support team members to achieve them.
- Provide informal practical and emotional support to team members experiencing difficulties.
- Promote positive challenges within the team.
- Perform on‑call duties as and when required to provide safeguarding escalation support.
- Take any other responsibilities as so reasonably directed by the management team.
Person Specification
- Experience as a Team Leader or Senior Support Worker is a requirement for this role.
- Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
- Full UK Driving Licence (held for at least 1 year).
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proven ability to supervise, support, and guide staff effectively.
- Knowledge of child safeguarding and relevant legislation.
- Skills in budget control and monitoring.
- Ability to manage and produce accurate reports on the day‑to‑day activities of young people.
- At least 2 years’ experience in residential care for young people.
