Substation Equipment Engineering Specialist to join the Equipment Consulting Services Department (ECSD), Electrical Engineering Division (EED). The ECSD substation equipment engineer is recognized as an expert in the field, and is responsible for providing effective specialized engineering consultations to operations and capital projects, introducing viable technologies, and maintaining engineering standards and material specifications for substation equipment.
The incumbent major functions include:
- Initiating or conducting special studies for improving facilities or operation.
- Providing specialized technical service in recognized engineering fields.
- Acting as a consultant on complex engineering issues and designs related to substation electrical equipment, including switchgears, motor starters, and transformers.
- Identifying pertinent new technologies to enhance company profitability and productivity.
- Maintaining and incorporating cost‑effective design solutions within Saudi Aramco engineering standards and design best practices.
- Undertaking special assignments requiring extensive technical experience and discretion when dealing with outside organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and recommend improvement solutions for existing and new installations or modifications to enhance the facility reliability within the substation equipment field.
- Plan, schedule, and provide clear work direction, while ensuring efficiency, adequacy and conformance of overall scope and objectives, in addressing engineering challenges.
- Initiate detailed work outline and make decisions on basic approaches for final development of specialized or technical proposals, processes and/or equipment.
- Review and advise on recommendations received from equipment vendors, system providers, and engineering firms.
- Develop scope and description of value‑adding technology items, and lead the implementation and operation of developed solutions in the field as a pilot.
- Conduct peer‑review of technical reports and review work of third‑party, project designs, technology reports, and engineering standards.
- Mentor and train younger Engineers in the field of Substation Equipment.
Qualifications
- BS in electrical engineering. MS or other advanced professional engineering degree is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or registration is highly desirable.
- 20+ years of professional experience, including years as an engineer responsible for technical work in his field of specialty, that includes experience in sizing, construction, installation and commissioning of high voltage electrical equipment, such as switchgears, motor starter, and transformer equipment, in addition to factory acceptance testing.
- Preferably have published papers in technical journals.
- Must have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
