Overview
Role: Heater & Refractory Engineer. Location: Saudi Arabia (permanent, residential basis) with expat family relocation package. Department: Global Manufacturing Excellence Team, Reliability Solutions Department (RSD).
Responsibilities
- Conduct simple and complex analyses related to the design, specification, and applications engineering tasks for heaters and refractory systems.
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer fired equipment packages suitable for design needs to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and efficient operation.
- Design and implement appropriate fired equipment systems and components.
- Perform field troubleshooting and technical assessments for heaters and refractory systems.
- Provide technical support for major turnarounds and emergency plant shutdowns to resolve heater and refractory issues.
- Support maintenance organizations with technical guidance and troubleshooting.
- Calculate remaining life of heater tubes and develop safe, optimized tube replacement schedules.
- Investigate heater and refractory failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Develop repair procedures as required and review detailed drawings and material specifications.
- Participate in HAZOP studies and other safety reviews as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor\’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Approximately 15 years of experience in the Oil & Gas downstream sector, with at least 10 years working with heaters and refractory systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fired heaters, refractory, flares, incinerators, boilers, SCRs, and related systems in Refining, NGL, and petrochemical industries.
- Strong knowledge of codes and standards including ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2, ASME Section I, API-530, API-535, API-537, API-560, API-579, API-936, NFPA standards, and other applicable codes for heaters and refractory systems.
- Proven experience in inspection and failure analysis of heaters and refractory systems; deep understanding of remaining life calculations and fitness for service of fired heaters and refractories; strong understanding of refractory design, materials, and applications.
