We’re looking for an experienced and energetic Chef Manager to lead our year round food service program and oversee all culinary operations at our summer kids camp. This role offers structured culinary leadership during the school year in Calgary, and an exciting, community focused live on site experience during the summer camp season (approximately 1 hour from Calgary).

This is an ideal role for a chef who loves building menus, leading teams, and creating memorable dining experiences—especially for children and youth.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth operation of Kananaskis winter program (Nov-March) with biweekly visits to site and coverage of staff when required.
  • Lead daily kitchen operations including menu planning, ordering, production, and food safety.
  • Manage food and labour budgets, inventory, and vendor relationships.
  • Develop seasonal menus that balance nutrition, creativity, and cost.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff.
  • Prepare for the upcoming camp season, including menu development, staffing plans, and ordering.
  • Support special events, catering needs, and organizational programming as required.

Summer Camp Season (May–August)

  • Oversee all camp food service operations, serving 3 meals + snacks daily for campers and staff.
  • Lead, train, and supervise a seasonal kitchen team in a high volume, fast paced environment.
  • Ensure meals are kid friendly, nutritious, and delivered on time to multiple dining groups.
  • Maintain strict food safety, sanitation, and allergy management protocols.
  • Manage camp kitchen inventory, ordering, deliveries, and storage.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, team oriented kitchen culture that aligns with camp values.
  • Participate in camp leadership meetings and collaborate with program staff on special events and theme meals.
  • Accommodations are available, however, can commute from Calgary.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal Chef certification or equivalent culinary training (asset but not required).
  • Experience managing a kitchen, including staff supervision and menu planning.
  • Ability to work independently during the year and lead a larger team during camp season.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing high volume meal production.
  • A passion for working with children and creating a welcoming, fun dining environment.
  • Willingness and ability to live on site at camp during the summer months.
  • Valid Food Handler Certification; First Aid is an asset.
