We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and experienced Senior Sous Chef working in conjunction with the Head Chef to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of Student dining at this independent school based in Uppingham.
Uppingham School is an Independent School that has numerous locations throughout the town. There are fifteen boarding houses in total and two Hub kitchens across the site, some houses have in-house Chefs. Hub Kitchens prepare food for six houses and it is then delivered to various houses. The required role would be based in the HUB Kitchen.

A day in the life of a Senior Sous Chef:
- In the absence of the Head Chef, the Senior Sous Chef will plan, organise, and direct the preparation and cooking of all food within a HUB, serving three houses within the estate.
- Ensuring that the school’s reputation for quality, consistency & choice is enhanced for Students & House Staff at all times.
- We provide Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner service across all locations, along with any other ad hoc requirements for the houses.
- Adopt a hands-on approach taking full responsibility & accountability for the food production within the HUB kitchen.
- Possess an exceptional drive for preparing & delivering high levels of Consistency, Quality & Choice across all food services.
- Responsibility & accountability for Food Safety, Health & Safety, HACCP and COSHH within the HUB kitchens.
You’ll be set up for success if you have:
- Proven experience in a role as a Senior Sous /Sous Chef, being able to demonstrate a track record of catering for large numbers.
- Have a 'big personality.' Great people skills and be able to lead, develop, train, and inspire your team.
- Have a real passion for food and customer service along with bags of enthusiasm.
- Food Innovation and development is essential along with being up to date with current food trends.
- A good knowledge level of Allergens, Natasha's law & ensure up to date on any relevant changes that would impact the service provided.
- Ability to communicate at all levels – Team, management & client levels.
- Superb culinary skills.
- Good financial understanding.
- High standards and be quality driven.
- Excellent organisational skills.
