Working collaboratively with key stakeholders such as the UK Country Lead, EXCOM, Rugby Factory Leader, Engineering, and other operational/functional departments, this position is pivotal in embedding a proactive safety culture through Arabelle Solutions Life Saving Principles, strengthening risk management systems, and ensuring seamless integration of EHS requirements across construction, commissioning, and ongoing operations.
Strategic EHS Leadership
- Develop and deliver the site’s long-term EHS strategy aligned to corporate objectives, future growth, and UK/EU regulations.
- Advise the senior leadership team on EHS matters related to large-scale CAPEX projects, manufacturing risks, and environmental impact.
- Lead EHS input into the steam turbine factory extension programme, ensuring risk controls are embedded in project design, contractor management, and commissioning.
Construction & Expansion Programme Support
- Serve as the principal EHS authority for the extension project, working closely with project managers, architects, engineering firms, and contractors.
- Ensure full compliance with CDM regulations.
- Conduct design-stage EHS reviews.
- Drive implementation of safe systems of work, construction phase plans, and environmental controls throughout the project lifecycle.
Site Security Leadership
- Own the strategy and daily governance for site security, ensuring the facility remains protected during both normal operations and the high-risk construction period.
- Implement security risk assessments covering physical, personnel, and operational security.
- Manage access control systems, perimeter protection, CCTV, intruder detection, and security protocols for visitors and contractors.
- Work collaboratively with other key stakeholders including security team or third-party security providers to ensure high standards of vigilance, professionalism, and incident response readiness.
- Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire, security breaches, evacuation, terrorism threats, and business continuity.
- Liaise with local authorities, emergency services, and relevant national security bodies as needed.
Operational EHS Management
- Ensure robust risk assessment, PUWER compliance, safe operating procedures, and machinery safeguarding—critical in heavy engineering and turbine manufacturing environments.
- Establish KPIs and monitor EHS performance, ensuring continuous improvement aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Environmental
- Lead environmental strategy including emissions, waste management, water sustainability, and compliance with EA permits.
- Develop initiatives to improve energy efficiency and support the company’s net-zero or decarbonisation goals.
- Ensure environmental risk assessments (ERA), monitoring, and reporting are robust and future-proof.
Culture, Training & Stakeholder Engagement
- Create a culture of safety ownership at all levels through leadership visibility, communication, and coaching.
- Lead EHS training and competency programmes, including contractor induction and specialist safety training.
- Partner with HR, Operations, Engineering, and external regulators (HSE, EA, Local Authorities) to support business critical change programmes.
- Represent the site during audits, inspections, and at corporate EHS forums.
Incident Management & Compliance Assurance
- Lead incident investigations using root-cause methodologies and drive corrective actions.
- Ensure statutory inspections, audits, risk assessments, and H&S committee meetings are completed on schedule.
- Maintain compliance with UK legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, LOLER, PUWER, RIDDOR, and CDM.
