About the Role
We are seeking a Turbine Retrofit Concept Mechanical Design Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for developing nuclear steam turbine retrofit concept designs during the tendering phase of projects. You will apply industry-leading steam turbine technologies to upgrade existing turbine components and equipment, contributing directly to the delivery of competitive and innovative retrofit solutions. Working in a collaborative, international environment, you will be involved in both technical and project-facing activities, offering excellent opportunities for professional development in nuclear and power-generation engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering
- Develop 2D and 3D concept designs of steam turbine components using CATIA V5 within a PLM environment
- Perform design and adaptation studies for rotating and static turbine components, including sizing, design, and analysis
- Carry out mechanical design calculations (forces, stresses) using in-house tools and analytical methods
- Gather and analyse data from existing equipment to define retrofit solutions
- Prepare site measurement specifications and post-process measurement data
- Produce technical drawings, reports, and presentations
- Generate component part lists and Bills of Materials (BoMs)
- Project & Collaboration
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver feasible concept retrofit solutions during the tender phase
- Participate in project meetings and internal engineering design reviews
- Interface technically with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders
- Support project planning and budgeting activities
- Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Apply company design rules, processes, and procedures
- Ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of design outputs
- Identify and monitor Nuclear Safety Items and Activities
- Contribute to Important to Nuclear Safety (INS) gates and reviews
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and product lifecycle requirements
- Follow all Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) rules and guidelines
Required Qualifications & Experience
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a mechanical design engineering environment
- Background in one or more of the following industries is desirable:
- Steam turbines
- Power & energy
- Oil & gas
- Aeronautics
- Rotating equipment or special machines
Skills & Competencies
- CAD proficiency (CATIA V5 preferred)
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals
- Knowledge of standard mechanical components (plates, tubes, bolts, flanges, etc.)
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, casting, forging, turning, milling, etc.)
- Proficient in common IT tools: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Rigorous and process-oriented
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Proactive, dynamic, and self-motivated
- Able to work with a high level of autonomy
- Professional working proficiency in English (spoken and written)
In this role we require the successful individual to hold the relevant UK Security Clearance. We will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not have it. Due to the nature of the work an individual is required to be a UK National or a Dual National from an ITAR country (as approved by the MOD).
