We are delighted to announce we are currently recruiting for a Stress Engineer to join us for a 3-year Fixed Term Contract. Reporting to the Mechanical Integrity Leader for UK Naval you will be collaborating with a strong team engaged in solving exciting challenges within our Naval Projects portfolio.

This role is based at our Rugby (Newbold Road) facility, where you will perform detailed analyses on components and assemblies using a combination of Finite Element (FE) techniques and hand calculation methods.

This work is undertaken with UK Defence customers which will require any individual applying for the role to hold or be capable of getting SC Level clearance as a UK Passport Holder. Applicants not cleared will not be accepted into the business until this clearance is provided. Dual passport holders are acceptable if the second country is approved by the vetting authority.

Role Responsibilities

  • Analyse components for fatigue, plastic collapse, buckling, ratcheting, rupture, natural frequency, heat transfer.
  • Analyse components for loads from shock and operation.
  • Assist in weld type definition and check for strength and fatigue.
  • Identify deficiencies in design through analysis techniques and propose improvements to features.
  • Analyse features and components for safe lifting during build and installation.
  • As required, analyse non-customer equipment such as pressure test fixtures.
  • Build FE models from CAD assemblies.
  • Produce high quality technical reports and presentation material.
  • Participate in design reviews, customer presentations and meetings.

Qualifications/Requirements

Honours degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related analytical discipline.

Demonstrable experience of analysis of mechanical components.

Experience in FEA packages, ideally ANSYS.

Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines preferably (although not essential).

Able to gain SC security clearance.

Knowledge of ASME and DNV Codes.

Experience in rotordynamics would be an advantage.
