We are delighted to announce that we are seeking a number of experienced Generator Winders to join our growing team at our Rugby Service Station.
As a Generator Winder, you will support our internal and external customers with generator and exciter installations, inspections, maintenance, fault finding, and repairs, including minor repairs through to full rewinds. Generators are water-cooled, air-cooled, or hydrogen-cooled, ranging from 2MW to 1800MW.
This position requires technical competence in reading and interpreting engineering documents, such as outage plans, technical and quality instructions, winding diagrams, and engineering drawings. A thorough knowledge of generator technology is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret electrical winding diagrams.
- Understand winding processes and methodology, applying correct solutions during inspections and repairs.
- Work under strict foreign material exclusion rules.
- Perform inspections and minor repairs on all types of generator windings.
- Fault finding on windings.
- Assist with diagnostic tests such as iron core low flux tests, electrical tests, and Doppler flow water measurements.
- Strip, inspect, clean, repair, and rebuild generator rotors, stators, and exciters.
- Rewind generator stators, rotors, and exciters.
Profile
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Recognized apprenticeship in armature winding of heavy electrical machines.
- City & Guilds or NVQ equivalent in electrical machines.
- Extensive knowledge of brazing techniques.
- Basic electrical testing knowledge.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and overseas for projects and field assignments.
- Computer literate with proficiency in IT skills.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
