At Arabelle Solutions, part of EDF Group, we design services and solutions that are generating power not just for today and tomorrow but for generations to come. You’ll work alongside passionate bright minds. We offer a broad range of opportunities for those eager to build tomorrow's world. We believe a supportive culture is key to reach common goals. Diversity and an inclusive mindset makes us and our business stronger.
We are currently recruiting for a Turbine Thermodynamic Engineer to join our growing Engineering team in Rugby. As a Turbine Thermodynamic Engineer, you will be in charge of the general design of the steam paths of the turbine, integrated in a nuclear power plant (Arabelle or other OEM Turbine), and of the calculation of the predictive performance of the power plant through the modelling of the entire water-steam cycle. Typically, you will focus on our portfolio of Arabelle machines for 50 and 60Hz nuclear power plants associated with all types of nuclear reactors worldwide and may include support to Service teams on the turbine fleet installed in France.
You will work as part of the Retrofit Engineering team supporting design of the turbine as well as the optimisation of the water/steam cycle of the plant. You will create a cycle model as well as calculate thermodynamic balances under nominal, partial or special conditions (malfunction of a component), correction curves (influence of a deviation on an external parameter, for example the cooling water temperature) as well as guaranteed performance data.
Working collaboratively with other members of the Engineering function, you will interact with the designers of the other components, in particular the heat exchangers and the Turbine Design and Steam Path Design groups in order to ensure the continuous improvement of the product, in particular by integrating feedback and the results of cost reduction and performance improvement programs.
Key Responsibilities- Dialogue with the offers department to define these requirements and interfaces upstream of the projects.
- Take into account cost and industrial standardization imperatives.
- Provide support to other business centres for decision support and project progress.
- Ensure the improvement and updating of the standards used for thermodynamic calculations.
- Support the development process of new products and participate in the corresponding reviews (design reviews and gate reviews).
- Ensure that Nuclear Safety Items and Activities are Identified and closely monitored.
- Participate in ITNS Gates Reviews.
Degree or Equivalent level trained Engineer with demonstrable experience in a mechanical design environment (energy, oil, aeronautics, special machines). Significant experience within a design office, ideally applying the laws of thermodynamics (energy, petroleum, aeronautics, special machines) and/or equivalent experience/knowledge.
Skills in thermodynamic studies- Use of common IT tools: Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook.
- Good communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Awareness and compliance of time constraints.
- Thorough with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads effectively.
- Language skills: English: fluent (fluency: speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing).
Join us and work with global teams to support global customers. At Arabelle Solutions, we have team members of more than 49 nationalities spread across 16 countries. We know diversity makes teams and business stronger.
