Provide strategic faculty leadership, building strong industry, community, and iwi MÄori partnerships while driving quality and performance outcomes. The Portfolio ManagerāNursing (PM) is responsible for leading exceptional teaching and learning within the Nursing Portfolio, which operates as part of the Faculty of Health, Science and Sustainability at Ara Institute of Canterbury. The Nursing portfolio is a flagship within Araās healthārelated offerings, featuring the institutionās largest academic programme, the Bachelor of Nursing (BN), alongside the Diploma in Enrolled Nursing and complementary nursing professional development course opportunities.
The Portfolio ManagerāNursing leads delivery of highāquality nursing education, fostering excellence in teaching, learning and research and ensuring that students have high quality classroom, applied, and clinical learning experiences. Working with colleagues across the portfolio, the Portfolio ManagerāNursing will lead the development of high-performing teams and actively create a workplace environment that enables others to succeed in their practice and professional growth.
The Portfolio ManagerāNursing will also maintain essential functional relationships with the Ako Excellence portfolio to provide ongoing assurance that the Nursing Portfolio meets all aspects of the Ara quality assurance framework. It is expected that the Portfolio Manager will have key skills and experience in academic or teaching and learning leadership alongside working knowledge of nursing or other health related fields.
- Bachelors degree in a health related field (Nursing or an equivalent health or clinical degree)
- A postgraduate level qualification in a related discipline (preferably Masters or Doctorate)
- Demonstrated effective management and people leadership experience in a complex and dynamic operating environment (in vocational education preferred)
- Experience leading people through change and embedding new ways of working
- Experienced in the development and leadership of programmes
- Appropriate academic/educational/industry background to support kaimahi through the development of courses and programmes to meet the needs of future graduates
- Understanding of the vocational education context, workplace, online and onājob training
- Experience in fostering strong and collaborative internal relationships and with industry, community, and iwiāMÄori partnerships
- Able to competently plan, budget, negotiate, manage and be accountable for resources and resource deployment and utilisation to achieve required outputs and outcomes
- Strength in using sophisticated administrative processes and management information associated with complex environments
- Demonstrated appreciation of the necessity for working with existing processes and standards while applying principles of continuous improvement in all activities
- Demonstrated expertise in promoting equity and inclusion in education
- Commitment to Araās values and principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology and its potential including being digitally literate in Office systems and able to quickly learn and apply Ara specific electronic systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety management practices
- Excellent report writing skills and understanding of different audiences and writing style
Preference also given to candidates who can demonstrate:
- Registered Nurse with current NZ Practicing Certificate
- A tertiary qualification in a management discipline or actively progressing to achieving such a qualification
- An Ara recognised teaching qualification (completed or in progress)
