Advanced Renewable Power Ltd are looking for a hands-on Design Manager to take ownership of our design function and help scale it as the business grows. You’ll be directly involved in design work while leading a small team, with responsibility for the quality, consistency, and delivery of outputs across a growing pipeline of commercial solar projects. You’ll start with a team of three engineers, with plans to grow this in line with business growth over the coming years. You’ll play a key role in shaping how the team develops—both in terms of people and process.
The design team covers everything from initial quotation through to construction-ready packs, including:
- Initial feasibility studies and yield modelling
- System layouts and general arrangements
- String and electrical designs
- DNO applications and planning support
- Full design packs including drawings, schematics, and supporting calculations
A core part of the role is technical ownership. You’ll be responsible for reviewing and signing off on the majority of design outputs, ensuring they are accurate, compliant, and fit for delivery. Alongside this, you’ll work closely with the Technical Director to improve how we do things—refining tools, standardising outputs, and building a design function that scales without sacrificing quality.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing and supporting a team of design engineers day-to-day
- Delivering and reviewing designs across multiple project stages
- Taking ownership of design sign-off for most projects
- Coordinating DNO submissions, planning inputs, and technical documentation
- Working with sales and delivery teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
- Engaging with clients, DNOs, and external stakeholders when required
- Improving internal tools, workflows, and design standards
- Helping shape and grow the design team as the business expands
What We’re Looking For
- Experience managing or leading a design team (minimum 3 years)
- Strong background in solar PV, renewables, or commercial electrical design
- Confident reviewing and signing off technical drawings and design outputs
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Experience with PV design tools (e.g. PV*SOL)
- Good understanding of DNO processes and UK regulations
- Comfortable working both hands-on and at team level
You don’t need to tick every box, but you do need to be someone who takes ownership of your work and is comfortable making technical decisions and problem-solving.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Engineering degree – preferably Electrical biased
- Utility Scale Battery Storage Experience
- 18th Edition Qualified
- Experience with tenders
Why This Role
This is a good fit for someone who wants to:
- Stay close to the technical detail while stepping into a leadership role
- Have real influence over how a design function operates
- Build and shape a growing team
- Work in a business where design quality is taken seriously
As the team grows, so will the scope of the role—offering genuine progression through increased responsibility within an extremely exciting sector.
